For the painter and musician of Bohemian origin who spent half his life in Ticino, it is a return to Ascona where he lived from 1936 to 1950 before moving to Minusio and Muralto, where he is buried. The Ascona stay was extremely profitable, also because with his wife Marta Hediger and his son Roberto he lived in the Torre dei Carcani house, on the lakefront, where other personalities from the cultural world resided such as the musicians Leo Kok, Albert Möschinger, Vladimir Vogel with Aline Valangin , Bauhaus architect Carl Wiedemeier. He fit perfectly into the Ascona artistic environment, as confirmed by his participation in various art collectives and the frequentation of Locarno artists such as Bruno Nizzola, Max Uehlinger and Ugo Zaccheo. At the same time as a musician he continued to perform with a certain continuity, from Ascona to Lugano and St. Moritz, and to spread jazz music in which he was a precursor in Ticino.
In the Ascona exhibition, which remains open until June 26, about forty works unpublished so far are presented, mostly landscapes and oil portraits, as well as some charcoals. It is a careful synthesis of his artistic production in which Oskar Dickmann distinguished himself with a personal and effective style. In memory of his important activity also as a musician, the presentation of the exhibition, curated by Dalmazio Ambrosioni and Christine Ledermann, will be preceded by a concert entitled "Music and word" with compositions by Leo Kok, Vladimir Vogel, Fritz Kreisler, Astor Piazzolla and Franz Schubert interpreted by Sophie Thiessen on the violin and Florian Heinisch on the piano.
