The annual meeting of the Kiwanis Club Mendrisiotto took place in the Sala del Torchio of the Gole della Breggia Park. The event, which saw the participation of around thirty members, was marked by the appointment of the new committee for the year 2024-2025.
The outgoing president, Niska Maspoli Brügger, the fourth woman to hold this role in the history of the Momò club, expressed deep gratitude towards the outgoing committee and proudly introduced the members of the renewed committee, who will assume their roles with immediate effect. During her speech, Niska Maspoli Brügger remembered her member Fabiano Pessina and illustrated the salient moments of her mandate, underlining the commitment of all the club members in the realization of events and charitable activities. His year as president made it possible to raise significant funds for charitable projects in the Mendrisiotto and Basso Ceresio regions.
Those present took the opportunity to warmly thank the outgoing president, applauding her appointment as New Lieutenant Governor for the district of the Canton of Ticino, a position that will be formalized in the coming weeks during the national meeting in Neuchâtel.
New president and members of the committee
The assembly enthusiastically welcomed Gabriele Coduri as the new president for the year 2024-2025. His leadership will be joined by two new committee members, as Tiziana Grignola and Paolo Zürcher have left their roles after many years of service. Coduri thanked Grignola and Zürcher for their commitment and dedicated a special moment to the introduction of Paolo Zürcher and Antonio Vaghi as "honorary members" of the club, recognizing their long and precious activity.

The Kiwanis Club Mendrisiotto: a story of service and community
The Kiwanis Club Mendrisiotto was born forty years ago thanks to the initiative of Paolo Zürcher, Antonio Vaghi and Mario Debernardis, who saw in Kiwanis an opportunity to contribute to the development of the community. Founded with 23 members, the club has grown over time to now have 38 members, including 6 women, admitted since 2004.
Kiwanis International is a nonprofit organization present in over 80 countries with more than 600.000 members, engaged in approximately 150.000 service projects and fundraisers annually. Founded in 1915 in Detroit by Allen S. Browne, the Kiwanis evolved its purpose in 1919 to become a non-profit service club, maintaining unchanged objectives since 1924 that reflect the relevance and foresight of its founders.
The Purposes of Kiwanis
- Affirm the supremacy of human and spiritual values over material ones.
- Encourage the daily use of the “Golden Rule” in all human relationships: “do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”
- Promote research and the achievement of the highest social, working and professional levels.
- Develop, through precept and example, a more intelligent, effective and lasting civic sense.
- To provide, through Kiwanis Clubs, a practical means to form lasting friendships, to render selfless service, and to build a better community.
