That society and the world of work change over time is self-evident, indeed, it is normal that they adapt to the evolution of the market, life, tastes and customs. Every change and transformation forces us, at every level, to question ourselves. When you understand that if you don't adapt, you are out, something jams. Significant are some words of Steve Jobs in the famous speech addressed to the new graduates of Stanford: «the old is swept away to make way for the new. Young people are the new, but someday not too far away they will gradually become the old and be wiped out. To get away from this event as much as possible it is necessary to be prepared, multidisciplinary, remain flexible, adapt quickly precisely to change ». Here, it would be all right except that anxiety rises. That of not being able to do it because behind it lies the need to excel, of not being able to stop even for a moment otherwise others will sweep you away. The world of work is full of consultants, life coaches, experts who push to be successful men and women (not necessarily better as people), to obtain extraordinary results, to be above average.

How many motivational gurus who, regardless of what one really wants, enhance the mantra of the passions to be pursued, "teach" how to make one's dreams come true, often with simplistic recipes, perhaps via the internet, like: "how to be successful at work" , "10 tips to be a good leader", or again, young and old influencers who explain the meaning of life and the road to success, and in the meantime fool you with some product. In short, if you want to fulfill yourself you have to stop being a normal person, don't be afraid to throw yourself, to get involved, you don't have to be lazy. Whatever you do, you have to be the best. Even at school, at home, in the family, with friends, the image that must be given is that of excellence (even better if there is beauty).

But what an effort! Not everyone is able to do it and not everyone wants to be… the best! For the avoidance of doubt, it is not intended that committing to doing things right is wrong, far from it. But excellence at all costs is leading more and more people to a state of discouragement because, consciously or unconsciously, they do not feel adequate, in an unequal struggle, in an increasingly competitive world, where just working well is no longer enough. We must all be leaders, increasingly communicative, emotional, charismatic, talented, capable of transforming a presentation into a show. Recipes to be happy, better, fulfilled, rich and powerful are wasted. A drift of society that leads us to believe that a person is really worth something only if these values are recognized. Yet, on closer inspection, the result is a very disoriented youth world, people increasingly anxious about this perennial running, where the use of "pills", "powder" and alcohol has increased exponentially while studying of psychologists and psychotherapists have a queue outside the door.

It is time and time to review things in a simpler way, to return to a truly more human sense of interacting with colleagues and superiors, in a less competitive and more relaxed way, making our uniqueness and care for work our trump card. A world where a “thank you” would be enough to improve a person's self-esteem and also the desire to participate in building something with others, without elbowing or fighting to be the first, but to be better.

In short, living in a society that allows you to be calmly in normality, which does not mean being ordinary, but doing well what we do and remaining what we are: respectable and extraordinary people because this is the greatest talent we can offer ourselves. and to others.
