The concern is pressing and present and the insecurity is around the corner. It takes attention and balance as in all things and, paradoxically, it turns out that in the world of work there is a shortage of some old and new professionals who may have a future. The way of working will certainly change, but not the essence of the job.
Craftmanship
Having a tailored suit made, a bag fixed, an armchair fixed, a piece of furniture made, becomes more and more difficult. Where have the artisans gone? Not so long ago there were bakers-artisans, carpenters, seamstresses and embroiderers (precious profiles in the fashion sector), shoemakers, upholsterers, farriers and other jobs that today are scarce or even disappeared. Intelligence is not only that of the head but also that of the hands! The ability to repair, regenerate, reconstruct typical of the artisan world is, in truth, an art that is more current and sought after than ever. Of course it will change, the craftsman will become more technological using new work tools, but the foundations of art remain the same. Moreover, if we think of real shops (artisans) often combine the workplace with the home and can revive city life in the center and in the suburbs.
Personal services
Other jobs, which do not see any crisis, are those that concern personal services: doctors, nurses, psychologists but also carers, servants, drivers, cooks, waiters, vigilantes, and again, teachers and educators in general, in short, all those jobs that have to do with the services and well-being of the person in a general sense. In fact, with the increase in the aging of the population and in a certain sense also in well-being, with the growth of social disadvantage, with the difficulties in managing families and children, more and more people require support from people and external structures. Often we do not find them on the territory and sometimes not even in the border basin.
Technique and environment
For several years there has been a shortage of specialized personnel in certain areas of information technology, science, technology and engineering. Confederation studies denounce, with concern, how for several years there has been a sharp decrease in students oriented to what is framed as the MINT area: mathematics, computer science, natural and environmental sciences, technical sciences. Not to mention the lack of the female gender in this area since the culture of our society, for too many years, has divided the professions between those suitable for women and those suitable for men. It must also be said that recently a small wind of change in this area has been noted, but still far away in numbers.
The lack of staff in some areas is certainly attributable to insufficient information and awareness of young people on training and study paths, which should already occur during the first years of school. Several studies show that the most sensitive years to excite and guide a young person are precisely those between eleven and fifteen years and, coincidentally, are the years of secondary school, at the end of which the choices that determine the future of the children must be made. . In an age of change in communication, in the speed of dissemination of information, in the values and priorities of society, it is necessary to perceive just as quickly the needs of the world of work and the way of working. Understanding this is primarily up to those who have a political responsibility or who are linked to the world of training, education and career guidance. In fact, they should be the fastest to adapt to these changes and convey in a positive way to young people that the future can offer them many possibilities. To do this, however, it is necessary to be more flexible, open, creative, dynamic and modern, as young people are.
