"Considering the importance that the object put to the vote on next February 13 has for our Canton, the Council of State expresses the invitation to the citizens of Ticino to vote" Yes "to the amendment of the Federal Law of June 18, 2021 which provides for a package of measures in favor of the media.
With this intervention, the Federal Council and Parliament intend to strengthen local and regional media. Specifically, the Confederation will step up its efforts to reduce the cost of distributing subscription newspapers, promote online media and provide greater support for local radio and regional television broadcasters. It should be stressed that these grants will only be awarded to the media which will undertake to target primarily a Swiss public and to address issues of public interest in the fields of politics, business and society.
The Ticino Council of State supports this change in the law, in the belief that it is a justified intervention to ensure the necessary plurality of voices to the media system, which - alongside the essential role of the public broadcaster - contribute to the proper functioning of our direct democracy. The project takes on particular relevance for Ticino - and for the whole of Italian Switzerland - because it would make it possible to strengthen commercial realities that currently suffer, due to the numerical scarcity of their target audience, and which, thanks to the new grants, will be able to guarantee a future. long-term".
