With the presidency of the State Councilor of the Canton of Ticino, Norman Gobbi, and in the presence of the Councilor of the Lombardy Region, Massimo Sertori, and the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Preioni, accompanied by the Secretary General Francesco Quattrini, a working meeting took place yesterday - February 3, 2025 - in Rome between the Presidential Office of the Regio Insubrica Working Community and the Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti.
In the year in which we celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Understanding, with which the Association was established in 1995, the delegation had the opportunity to underline to the minister the importance of the cross-border collaboration promoted in the Italian-Swiss area of the pre-Alpine lakes by the Working Community. The latter acts as a platform for dialogue and cooperation, taking concrete action for the needs of its territory as a political interlocutor with respect to the respective central authorities.
In particular, the concern for the current economic and labor market situation in the Insubric area, related to the serious business crises affecting the provinces of Varese and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, was brought to the minister's attention. These difficulties also have repercussions in the Canton of Ticino, negatively impacting and impoverishing the socio-economic fabric of the Italian-Swiss border area.
On the merits, the Presidential Office forwarded a letter from Regio Insubrica to Minister Giorgetti and expressed the need for national authorities to pay particular attention to the specific dynamics of the border areas between Switzerland and Italy, to protect the economy and employment in the border regions.
The same alarm and the request to take it into account when developing any political initiatives were also jointly addressed to the head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, in a letter recently forwarded by the Presidency of the Working Community.
