A moment of institutional dialogue and diplomatic discussion took place in Bellinzona, where the President of the Council of State Norman Gobbi received on a courtesy visit Sharaf Sheralizoda, Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan, accredited to the Swiss Confederation. The meeting took place at the institutional headquarters of Palace of the Ursulines, the heart of cantonal political life.
The visit marks a new milestone in Ticino's international relations, forming part of Switzerland's ongoing relations with Central Asian countries. It also provided an opportunity to explore current issues related to bilateral relations. The discussions focused on the development of political and trade relations between Bern and Dushanbe, with a focus on the prospects for cooperation and exchange in a constantly evolving international context.
During the meeting, the President of the Council of State illustrated to the Ambassador the main characteristics that distinguish the Canton of Ticino, focusing on its role within the Confederation and its geographical and cultural position as a link between northern and southern Europe. Some elements of the canton's current socio-economic situation were presented, as well as aspects of political and cultural life that define Ticino's identity.
The meeting also provided the opportunity for a broader exchange of views on international dynamics and the ways in which regional territories can contribute, while respecting federal competences, to strengthening Switzerland's foreign relations. In this sense, Ticino presents itself as a partner attentive to global developments, capable of leveraging its unique strengths in a multilateral dialogue.
Ambassador Sharaf Sheralizoda's courtesy visit confirms the attention paid by foreign diplomatic representations, including at the cantonal level, recognizing the role of regional entities in the fabric of international relations. This is a sign that fits into the broader theme of Ticino and international, an area in which the Canton continues to position itself as an actor open to discussion and cooperation with partners from different geographical and cultural backgrounds.
