The meeting between the representatives of the Cantonal Government and the Italian Ambassador offered the opportunity to preliminarily update a series of issues of immediate relevance in the context of relations of mutual, as well as bilateral, interest between the respective countries .

In particular, the protocol visit of the highest Italian diplomatic representative in the Confederation, who took office last September, underlined the development of the next formal meetings between the two administrations.

In his examination of the socio-economic context of Ticino, President of the Council of State Raffaele De Rosa highlighted the dynamics of cross-border relations and reiterated the importance of effective collaboration with the political authorities of the regions bordering the Confederation, particularly Lombardy and Piedmont, as part of the initiatives launched by the Regio Insubrica Working Community, the Italian-speaking economic-administrative macro-area shared by both nations.

During the meeting, some of the priorities in relations between Switzerland and Italy were also recalled, such as the taxation of cross-border workers and the dynamics regarding demographic development.

A separate chapter in the discussions with the Italian Ambassador, mobility remains.

Starting from the long-range one, which has as its main theme the completion of Alptransit, the New TransAlpine Railway-NFTA.

The latter, let us remember, in our country is made up of the three base tunnels of Lötschberg, San Gottardo and Ceneri which, crossing the Alps at the height of the Zurich plateau, represent the main axes of Swiss rail transport, and whose natural geographical continuation is aimed at the Italian territory.

Last but not only, short-distance mobility, cross-border mobility, was also considered, for which the need to update the calendar of the next bilateral discussions was recalled.
