What are the reasons that led you to entrust the management of the company founded by your father to other hands?
Succession in the company is an important issue that, in my opinion, deserves to be addressed while we still have full control of the situation. My son Tazio has chosen, as is right, to pursue a different career path, and I feel the need for a change of leadership at this company that, on the one hand, ensures continuity and, on the other, brings the spirit and desire to innovate that characterizes the new generations. Added to this is my desire, after decades of work, to finally dedicate myself to my family, my interests, and my hobbies, first and foremost travel and scuba diving. The possibility of this "handover" is guaranteed by the fact that Carol began working with me over 20 years ago, has held positions in every department of the company, and, after a period of gaining significant experience elsewhere, has decided to take the important step of purchasing Dick . I am therefore absolutely certain of his managerial abilities and, above all, of the fact that he fully shares the values, management style, and form and substance of relationships with collaborators, customers, and suppliers that have always distinguished this company since its founding in 1971."
How has your business sector changed over the course of these 54 years?
"I would say that there has been a radical transformation, both in terms of products and technologies, and in terms of the approach to the market and the relationships between clients and suppliers. When my father started out, we sold typewriters, then the first electronic calculators, then the advent of fax machines and then computers and all the information technologies that followed and that completely changed the look and functionality of the office. Even photocopiers have gone from small printing solutions to powerful, increasingly high-performance multifunctional tools. In parallel, in the furniture sector, we have gone from a few models offered in a limited range of colors to modern electrified desks and modular furniture systems capable of satisfying all possible needs."
And in terms of commercial aspects, what evolution has your sector had?
«Until recently, the relationships established between manufacturers, retailers and companies that purchased the products were destined to last over time because they were based on trust, punctual deliveries, continuity of assistance and in general on respect for the work of others, which was a shared value.
Over time, relationships have become increasingly complex and bureaucracy has increased, making work increasingly less streamlined and simple. Despite this, Dick, thanks to its structure and efficient organization, has recently won important contracts, such as the furnishing of over a thousand workstations at the University Campuses of Italian Switzerland, as well as over a thousand interactive screens (STI) for cantonal schools.
I
Your service is therefore a “turnkey” that covers every need of the company…
"Certainly. Our showroom is the first meeting place with the customer where they can get to know all the products we represent. Subsequently, thanks to our design specialists, we move from a simple sketch to a detailed three-dimensional drawing with realistic rendering, defining together everything that is needed to satisfy the various requests. The brands we represent always guarantee top-level quality and certainty over time for all our customers. Finally, our specialized internal staff accompanies the customer in all the phases of delivery, set-up, testing and post-sales of the furnishings and technologies chosen for the office and also for the home."
I would like to ask Carol Walker directly, with what spirit she is approaching this new entrepreneurial challenge…
«I started working and grew up at Dick, where I had the opportunity to get to know various functions and business sectors first-hand. I subsequently gained new experiences, especially in the commercial sector, first at Onys Digital Solutions in Manno and later at the Ticino branch of Smartec as Branch Manager. When I learned of Diego Dick's intentions, I understood that this was an extraordinary opportunity to take the big leap and assume direct entrepreneurial responsibility. My passion for technology dates back to when I was little and my managerial vocation probably arose from having always followed the family business in the sectors of fashion accessories and future clothing.
My commitment will be to ensure the continuation of a company that has already consolidated its roots in the territory over time and whose value system and methods of approach to the market I fully share. Looking to the next few years, I would like to work to expand our presence especially in Mendrisiotto and the Bellinzona region. One of my intentions is then, in perspective, to grow in the home furnishings sector where today we are already well positioned in the Locarno area thanks to Knecht Arredamenti, a historic company founded in 1930 and purchased by Dick in 2011, which boasts a good clientele, especially German-speaking. My secret dream is to open a showroom in St. Moritz too».
The Dick family sincerely thanks all customers, employees and partners for the support and trust shown throughout all these years.
It has been a pleasure and an honor to work with each of you. THANK YOU
