Lorenza, Michele and Mattia Bernasconi, entrepreneurs in Security Group Since the early 2000s, they have radically transformed the company inherited from their father Fabrizio, founder in 1980.
Michele, you have the longest experience in the family business. What were the most important challenges for you?
"One of the most significant challenges that has accompanied us in these twenty years of evolution has been the process of acquiring 3 companies and ensuring a rapid and effective integration into the Group. This activity has opened up a wide range of opportunities, but has also required significant work in reorganizing and analyzing processes to allow each of our companies to have a strategic positioning in their sector of reference."
Mattia, from your technological observatory, how has security changed in the last twenty years?
"The definition and concept of security itself have undergone radical transformations. In the 80s, for example, when our father founded the company, security was mainly focused on physical protection: alarm systems, surveillance and access control were the pillars of the sector. However, with the advent of digital technologies, cyber security has also become central and, consequently, the numbers relating to it have become significant. In the early 2000s, security systems began to embrace the first forms of digital technology. Today, with the pervasiveness of the Internet and connected devices, cybersecurity has become an essential element. Security is no longer just a question of physical protection, but also of data protection, privacy and prevention of increasingly numerous cyber attacks."
Lorenza, how did you experience this paradigm shift?
"I still have the opportunity to experience and encourage the transformation as a journey no longer oriented exclusively to the product, but rather by enhancing the resources to the process and to the set of solutions related to each other to guarantee a protection service for goods and people. It is a continuous approach that embraces both the physical and digital world, requiring integrated and advanced solutions to protect people, property and information. This change has made a sophisticated and interconnected approach necessary, in which each element of the security system works in synergy with other technologies to offer complete protection".
How have you responded to changes in the industry as a family business in a local context?
Lorenza: «We have consistently believed in integrating solutions based on industry needs and trends, sometimes anticipating demand. Positioning ourselves as security solution integrators has been, over the years, a winning approach for our business model».
Mattia: «From my technological observatory, the advent of new technologies and the internet has meant that the concept of local and global is no longer a physical barrier. What works locally can be applied globally and vice versa. This is why we have started rewarding experiences abroad, implementing cutting-edge technologies and then returning to our territory and adapting them to local needs. These international experiences have allowed us to structure the company as a process applicable in different contexts. We are no longer limited by geographical borders: what we learn abroad can be scaled and integrated into our local operations».
Michael: “It is an approach that allows us to remain competitive and innovative, ensuring that our solutions are always cutting-edge and appropriate for both the local and global markets.”
Reveal to us the magic formula of how a family can work together peacefully…
Lorenza: "Our strength lies in the diversity of our personalities and characters. This variety allows us to complement each other in both operational and strategic processes. However, the real secret of our success is the legacy of solid values and principles passed down from our parents."
Mattia: «What unites us is the dedication to the development of the family business. This commitment certainly requires a lot of energy, but it also offers a lot of satisfaction, because it is a unique project that we share with the same vision».
Michele: «Thanks to the development of our Group, which currently has 150 employees divided into four operating companies, we have mutually decided to restructure our organization to make the management of the companies more fluid. We have strengthened leadership and improved the efficiency of our operations».
Lorenza: «In other words, each operating company within the Group now enjoys a dedicated and focused leadership: Mattia is the CEO of Gruppo Sicurezza, Michele leads Galli Sicurezza, while I supervise Gruppo Sicurezza Servizi and Satel Control. This structure allows us to focus our energies effectively, continuously improving the quality of our solutions to meet the changing needs of the market, constantly keeping the customer at the center of our core business».
On the subject of sustainability, for some years you have also been working on the project 'Idee che valgono'. What is it about?
Lorenza: «It is an initiative that we have introduced to enhance the contribution of our collaborators. The goal is to ensure that each member of our team feels an integral part of our growth, encouraging the presentation of innovative ideas and improvement solutions. This project is the cornerstone of our commitment to employee well-being and social sustainability, reflecting our desire to create a participatory and proactive work environment".
Thank you for allowing us to enter your world and learn about your dynamics. One last ritual question: after all this journey, what are your next goals?
Michele: «We still have many dreams to realize. One of our main goals is to remain a leader in digitalization in the security sector. We aim to introduce increasingly advanced devices that ensure the personal and property safety of our customers, while maintaining an intuitive and easy-to-use interface».
Lorenza: «It is important to remember that we are a young company and that we have enjoyed constant growth over the last twenty years. We will continue to expand, strengthening our presence in other regions of Switzerland and Europe."
Mattia: «Furthermore, we are already thinking about how to ensure an effective generational transition, so that our Group can maintain continuity over time. Just as our father had faith in us, it is essential that we also place our trust in the new generations to ensure harmonious and sustainable development».
