Let’s start long before this exhibition sponsored by BNP Paribas: in your biography we read that your artistic inspiration brings out memories of your childhood and your roots. Can you tell us about the main stages of your life?
"My journey began in the Canton of Aargau, where I was born and raised. The early years were shaped by the presence of my grandparents with life stories that have remained deeply in my memory, and by the separation of my parents in my early adolescence. Even as a child, I felt drawn to art; it was a place of refuge for me, a space where I could express my feelings and withdraw into a dream world. These early experiences laid the foundation for my artistic development and are with me to this day."
And as for your artistic vocation, when and how did you decide to dedicate yourself to painting?
"An important period in my life was the one I spent in Vienna, where I discovered painting. The artistic city has shaped me in life and art. In particular, the exhibition of the Austrian artist Maria Lassnig at the Albertina in 2019 had a lasting impact on me. Of course, my degree in Fine Arts also played an important role, as it gave me the opportunity to engage intensively in painting and perfect my techniques."
In this regard, what are the painting techniques you refer to most frequently and the style you draw inspiration from?
"I prefer to work with oil paints. I am always fascinated by the way the color reacts on the canvas. I draw inspiration from everyday situations or the surrounding environment. Everything that happens in life inspires me."
You have been selected by the BNP Paribas Foundation – 2024 young artist selection. What does this recognition mean to you?
«It was a great honor for me to be chosen by BNP Paribas Foundation. I see it as a wonderful opportunity to introduce my paintings to a wider audience."
What are the objectives pursued by the BNP Paribas Foundation towards young artists?
"In line with the values of the BNP Paribas Group, the BNP Paribas Swiss Foundation is particularly interested in exploring artistic practices that recall nature or convey a message related to environmental protection. The curatorial line of the foundation therefore addresses the major challenges of our time and offers everyone the opportunity to reflect by opening up to artists who propose their new visions of the world. In recent years, young talents such as Lisa Lurati, Aruna Canevascini and Fabio Sonego have been supported."
His works will be presented for a year at the headquarters of BNP Paribas in Lugano. An important point of arrival but also a point of departure towards new goals. Which ones?
"First of all, I feel incredibly honored that my work will be presented at the BNP Paribas headquarters in Lugano this fall. The opportunity to be in such an important location (right on the lake!) motivates me to continue working on my art. Above all, I would like to create even larger works. The next step will therefore be to find a suitable studio that offers me the space I need to transform my visions into reality."
How is your artistic work organized and what emotions do you feel when you dedicate yourself completely to a creative act?
"My artistic work is strongly characterized by intuition, as my works often deal with very personal themes. This does not always make it easy to plan ahead. However, I try to give a certain structure to my creative process in order to realize my ideas in a targeted manner. When I paint, I am deeply concentrated and almost fall into a kind of trance."
