Today, with the increasing number of cyber attacks globally, protecting data and digital infrastructures has become a priority. For this reason, the Computer Forensics Service (SIF) of the Scuola Universitaria della Svizzera Italiana, with the support of BancaStato, has recently published Practical Guide to Managing Cyber Attacks, a volume that collects fifteen years of experience in the field of computer security.
A Simple, Practical Guide to Cyber Security
The volume, available free of charge in both paper and digital formats, was conceived to be accessible to a broad audience, not necessarily with particular experience in the sector. As Alessandro Trivilini, head of the SIF, points out, the style of the guide is deliberately simple, with a communicative register that avoids the excessive use of technical terms. “The goal is to ensure that anyone, from private citizens to businesses, can better defend themselves from cyber threats,” says Trivilini, explaining that the work is based on years of experience acquired both through investigative activity and in the field of Swiss and European scientific research.
The structure of the guide
The guide is divided into seven chapters, each dedicated to a specific type of cyber attack. For each scenario, instructions are provided on how to recognize the danger, what measures to take to limit the damage, and how to act following an attack. Particular attention is paid to the so-called “good digital hygiene practices,” which are essential for reducing the risk of suffering cyber intrusions. In addition, the guide offers an overview of the reference standards and guidelines in the field of cyber security.
