What were the main stages of your professional career before joining Fidinam, and how did these experiences shape your current skills in the fiduciary and tax sectors?
After graduating in Business Administration from the University of Zurich, I gained initial experience at a "Big Four" company as a tax advisor on national and international assignments. This work offered me a great opportunity for ongoing training, and after three years of professional experience, I earned the title of Federal Certified Tax Expert. My second experience was as a tax advisor at a conglomerate listed on the Zurich Stock Exchange, where I served as Swiss Tax Manager at Alusuisse Lonza Group. This enriching experience allowed me to collaborate with various Swiss subsidiaries (over 40), the Group CEO (Sergio Marchionne), and other listed Swiss companies within the umbrella association Industrie Holding at the Federal Chambers in Bern (to recommend tax changes).
What prompted you to join Fidinam, and what were the initial challenges you faced in your early years at the company?
«In 1998, after a period of 12 years spent in Zurich, I was offered by a head hunter the opportunity to take over the management of the tax sector of the Fidinam Group, which at the time was still incorporated into Fidinam SA. The Group It was expanding, diversifying, and specializing. Shortly thereafter, the Group was reorganized, with a series of spin-offs, and individual units were created, allowing the various managers to participate in different shareholding plans. This contributed to a significant expansion of operations thanks to ever-increasing specialization.
How has your role at Fidinam evolved over time to your current position as Director and Partner, and what responsibilities do you consider strategic in your daily work?
"Three years after I joined the Group, the reorganization described above was implemented. I've been managing partner for almost 25 years. A lifetime, I'd say."
From your perspective, what are the main strengths that distinguish Fidinam consultancy, particularly in the tax and fiduciary fields?
"The ability to offer a highly specialized service, yet integrated with other Group functions, certainly represents a strategic advantage. Furthermore, our national and international presence, with European and Asian offices, is also a strength appreciated by our clients. The fact that tax has always played a strategic role throughout the Group's 65-year history also positions us in a privileged position with our stakeholders—be they clients, authorities, business partners, or other professionals with whom we collaborate."
What are the most frequent requests customers make to Fidinam in your sector today, and how have they changed in recent years?
"Consultancy regarding M&A, inheritance, asset protection, and transfers of personal tax residence are the most requested areas today. There are also requests related to cryptocurrencies, so-called digital nomads, and the formation of companies for the ownership of intellectual property rights or works of art."
Looking to the future, what regulatory or market developments do you believe will have the greatest impact on fiduciary consultancy, and how is Fidinam preparing to respond to these new needs?
From a regulatory perspective, I see a growing interest among states in securing good taxpayers, or taxpayers active in specific fields, who can serve as a boost to a country's economy. On the other hand, I see a huge waste of state resources in implementing supranational programs related to information exchange, which, in practice, bring in fewer resources than they take away. On the market side, we see a mega trend in AI. Even tax advisors will be forced to master digital tools to avoid being excluded from the market. It will be possible to ask machines for standard solutions, make increasingly precise comparisons between various scenarios, and conduct targeted research on issues affecting multiple countries. Furthermore, many repetitive and low-value-added tasks will be performed by AI. At least in the short term, however, creativity and intuition for innovative solutions are unlikely to be replaced by machines, which are more likely to replicate models already found online rather than create new ones.
The Fidinam Group remains closely aligned with national and international developments and has continued to invest in improving the specialization of its staff and adapting to these changes for over 65 years.
