The Board of Directors of Axion SWISS Bank SA has formalized the appointment of Raoul Paglia as the new President of the General Management. His effective date is July 1, 2026, when Paglia will replace Attorney. Marco Tini, who is leaving the position after ten years at the helm of the institute to dedicate himself to personal projects.
The decision is part of a process already outlined in recent weeks, when, on the occasion of the presentation of the annual results of the BancaStato Group, the intention to proceed with a change at the top had been anticipated. Axion, active in private banking and wealth management, represents a specialized component of the group, headquartered in Lugano and serving a clientele oriented towards customized services.
A choice in the name of continuity
According to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Axion, John JelminiPaglia's appointment responds to the need to ensure stability and strategic continuity. The new president of the General Management has in-depth knowledge of the institution and the context in which it operates, having gained direct involvement in its governance bodies over the years.
Paglia has been a member of Axion's Board of Directors since 2018 and previously held senior roles at BancaStato, where he was a member from 2012 to 2024 and vice president since 2019. His profile, therefore, combines internal knowledge and a vision of the Ticino financial system.
The selection process, it is specified, was carried out in coordination with the group leader and with the FINMA, confirming the relevance of the assignment and the need to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements.
Axion's role in the Ticino banking system
Axion SWISS Bank SA stands out for its strong focus on private banking and wealth management, with a model that prioritizes customer relationships and the creation of long-term value. Belonging to the BancaStato Group allows the institution to integrate expertise and services, expanding its offering through operational synergies.
In this context, the new Chairman of the Executive Board plays a central role in consolidating the bank's positioning and continuing the development path established in recent years.
The Michela Ferrari-Testa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BancaStato, expressed his appreciation for the appointment, emphasizing how Paglia's experience and skills can contribute to further strengthening the institution's role in the Ticino financial center.
The balance of the Tini era
Marco Tini's legacy marks the conclusion of a ten-year cycle characterized by significant growth and a consolidation of the company's identity. Under his leadership, Axion has developed a collaborative internal culture and achieved significant results deemed significant by the group's top management.
The Boards of Directors of Axion and BancaStato expressed their gratitude for the work done, acknowledging the former Chairman of the General Management's key role in strengthening the institution.
Raoul Paglia's Education and Career
Raoul Paglia's professional career spans over three decades in the banking and trust sectors. After completing his academic studies at the École des Hautes Études Commerciales in Lausanne, he earned the Federal Diploma in Financial Analyst and Asset Manager (CEFA/AZEK) in 1999 and a Master of Advanced Studies in Tax Law from SUPSI in 2013.
He entered the sector in 1993 at Banca del Gottardo in Lugano, followed by a stint at BSI SA, where he worked in fund management, institutional clients, and equity markets. In 2011, he assumed responsibility for equity markets for the Family Office division, which later became Patrimony1873.
He is currently a member of the Board of Directors and director of AMCO Fiduciaria SA, in addition to holding positions in institutions and foundations, including the Perspectiva Collective Foundation based in Basel.
Outlook and next steps
The question of Paglia's succession on Axion's board of directors remains open: the procedures, according to a statement from BancaStato, are ongoing.
A new phase is now beginning for the Lugano-based institution, one marked by continuity but also by adaptation to an evolving financial environment, where the ability to combine technical expertise, client relationships, and strategic vision is crucial.
